Hi everyone,

I was speaking to the good folks at Boost about the Google Summer of Code and the possibility of working on a computational geometry library. They suggested that I also visit you guys. Even though you may not have currently applied to be a Summer of Code mentor, there is actually still a few days to do so!

What is Summer of Code? It's an opportunity for students to contribute to open source projects by submitting project proposals to participating organizations and being selected by the organization to follow through on their project. The student gets matched up with a mentor who guides the student and offers support. More information can be found on the Summer of Code website (http://code.google.com/soc/).

If you are at all interested in participating in this initiative, I suggest applying as a mentoring organization right away. If you already have, that's great! In either case, I would love to be able to submit a proposal to you as I am very much interested in computational geometry.

A bit about me:
I'm in my last semester of Computer Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, ON, Canada. I have strong interests in computer vision/graphics/computational geometry. In fact, I will be beginning my Masters of Computer Science in this area in September. This will be at Carleton University as well since the school has the largest computational geometry group in North America, or so I'm told :) I have some interesting industry experience at Ross Video (they make live video production switchers) and Corel (I worked on CorelDRAW, software I've known and loved since I was a kid).

I'd love to hear what you guys think about this, and even if you won't be participating in Summer of Code this year, I would like to think I'd be able to contribute one day in the future!

Cheers,
Gail
