Hi Andreas,

this is the answer that I wanted. Thanks for your kind reply.

So to summarize and extend a little further the discussion:

i) The BSD license of Slicer is compatible with the QPL license of Slicer, as
long as no commercial application is built on the two together.
ii) If it were the case that a product would be built on the two
technologies, the company producing it would have to negotiate a commercial
license with you, correct?
iii) These licensing issues are not circumvented by simply producing plugins
based on CGAL.
iv) These licensing issues do not restrict the commercialization of
anatomical models produced by a combination of Slicer and CGAL, as opposed to
an application built on the two, correct?

Best wishes,

Michel

Hi Michel,

CGAL is under the QPL, which is compatible with BSD.
Only distributing binaries is not a solution but a problem:
The QPL obliges you to distribute source code.

Note that as slicer is distributed under BSD it can be integrated
in commercial code. By integrating CGAL in slicer, this is no
longer possible, as users have to take into account the strongest
restriction of the licenses. That is, when you integrate CGAL,
the CGAL files of the slicer distribution are still under the QPL
and not under the BSD.

Hope this helps,

andreas
