when you encounter a problem like this, run the program in debug mode first.
Secondly, if you had read the book, you would have known that the program takes a direction as a mandatory argument. Try the following:

useful examples.  I downloaded the polyhedron projection example and
compiled it.  When I run the executable I get the following error

Segmentation fault

Very uninformative error.  Any ideas?
