I think you are correct that the Nef_3 demo uses Qt3.
Ubuntu 12.10 has said "goodbye" to Qt3.  I conclude that
it would take way more effort than I am willing to expend
to download Qt3 for Ubuntu 12.10 just to compile the demo.

I was able to get *my* code up and running, but grabbing
some of the examples/Nef_3 code and munging it together.

Thanks for verifying my assumptions about the Qt3 dependency.
