Hello Varun,

the project page on Melange [1] has an application template. I suggest
filling it out and contacting the two mentors for the project idea
directly.

Otherwise 
- start playing around with the AABB_tree code. Try to see if you find
  places to improve it.
- try to understand how CGAL kernels work. This can be a difficult but
  enlightening experience and will help you a lot when writing CGAL
  code.
