Hi
You would get periodicity as defined by the group of translations corresponding to the square, but not for the group of isometries corresponding to the non-square domain D.

Hi,
Naive question: let be D your non-square domain. Why not triangulating a
square that is larger than D, and then clip the result with the borders of
D?
