Not at all. CGAL is using cmake. So it is compatible with linux, mac os and windows. Your problem was that you probably don't know how to use cmake.

Indeed, many CGAL developers (including me) are actually developing on MacOS. We care about having examples and demos working on MacOS, so that CGAL users as well as ourselves can use them. 

The examples and demos that I tried are working well with cmake on my MacBookAir.
