Here's the code I used on my last project: https://bitbucket.org/poconbhui/cgalmeshing/src/eb3b0e5bc396e61c8c88833b8c221de882744d4a/src/make_smooth_polyhedron_from_discrete_image.h?at=master&fileviewer=file-view-default . It's a bit gross because it was only intended for quick use on one project.

The gist of the surface point extraction is to loop through the voxels, and of any of the neighbouring voxels have a different value, create a point on that interface.

great help. My image is a segmentation meaning that the different domains
have the same values of voxels in their whole domain with different values
only in the structures interfaces. If i could extract the surface points
which will be in this case the interface i will be able to do what i am
trying following the second example you posted I guess.
