Apologies for coming back to this so long after the last post but I forgot to get back to it sooner. In the end I discovered the assertion violation I was getting occasionally is caused by requiring the mesh to be manifold, i.e. "F_C3t3 c3t3 = CGAL::make_mesh_3<F_C3t3>(domain, criteria, CGAL::parameters::manifold() );: . When I don't use the tag CGAL::parameters::manifold() the error disappears. Just letting you know in case its not how it is suppose to behave and you want to look further into this.

Yes probably. Since you are modifying the function to be meshed I was
looking at what could be an issue for the mesher. The bounding volume
is one of them.
