That is interesting, my case is the following:
I have a mechanical base shape that I need to modulate according to some movement constraints.

Some points will be moved in 3d space and possibly added to maintain a given shape. 

But I always know the neighbors of a given point since I manage the whole cloud of points.

The goal is a representation of the impact of the movement on the shape. Then, I need to export a mesh based on the modified set of points.

It seems that this package is the right one for me.

I hope I give enough info to narrow down my problem. Maybe that could change your answer.
