Got it, that is quite a commitment, and probably more than I can handle as first year faculty :). But I'd be happy to talk more about ideas.

I guess that's pretty open and depends on the project size and
candidate; I'd say at least half-day a week is expected.

Outreachy specifically notes on mentor commitment:
- Committing to 5-10 hours a week during the six-week application period to review applicant contributions
- Committing to 5 hours a week during the three month internship period to work with the Outreachy intern
- Committing to the possibility of the internship being extended for up to five weeks

I'm not an expert here, but I trust the procedures already in place for
both programs. I guess the programs are very focuses in actually helping
the applicants / students, which if of course the core goal.

They are funded a reasonable amount IMVHO ($7000 for Outreachy for example).
Note that there is a difference in the way GSOC and Outreach organize,
but the first step in both is to find mentors and potential projects,
and list them. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of room here.

I'd take the opportunity here to mention a very interesting idea brought
by Hanneli Tavante here [1] in response to this call:
"What about something more informal, maybe along the lines of SIGPLAN-M, but for Coq?"
We hope to discuss more the idea on the upcoming Coq Hackathon.
