FYI, the new function starpu_init_task has just been renamed in starpu_task_build.

Cheers,

Is it possible to mix implicit and explicit dependencies in the same program ?
Yes. Implicit dependencies are actually internally expressed through
explicit dependencies in StarPU.

Is there a better way, one that would not prevent me from using
starpu_insert_task() for t1, ..., tn ?
The just-commited starpu_init_task() could actually be useful for you
as well: you can add dependencies on the task.

Are there performance penalties
associated with each approach ?
They should have more or less the same cost, which is to build the list
of tasks you'll be depending on.
