Given that hint, I found this output fascinating:

pcl@anubis /tmp/cado.VgIbqQcYNM/c59.upload $ file *
c59.polyselect.7ishyt.5000-10000: ASCII text
c59.polyselect.b63v55.0-5000: ASCII text
c59.sieving.200000-201000.1uwvzv.gz: gzip compressed data, from
VM/CMS
c59_sieving_200000-201000.e4pin1.stderr0: ASCII text
c59.sieving.201000-202000.7nlz09.gz: gzip compressed data, from
Unix, last modified: Fri Feb 14 10:04:16 2014, max speed
c59_sieving_201000-202000.n9bgap.stderr0: ASCII text
c59.sieving.202000-203000.385eg_.gz: gzip compressed data, from
Unix, last modified: Fri Feb 14 10:04:21 2014, max speed
c59_sieving_202000-203000.qamj19.stderr0: ASCII text

and so on. All subsequent *.gz are from Unix.

The data from VM/CMS is curious to say the least.

Paul
