Hi Andreas,
I am so sorry that I am preparing my final exams, so I nearly have no
much time to check the mails one by one, most of then were deleted :-(
I wish you could forgive me, I am so sorry again.
Recently I am studying in Nanjing Forestry University of China, I am also
working for a small animation company in my free time, we are using Pixar
RenderMan to produce game CG, TV short animation etc. Because the licence
bought from Pixar is very very high, one node $3000, and we have a little
more nodes, so the total price is very high. So we want to develope a
in-house Renderer. As you know there are lots of problems about the geometry
used in CG, so if we completely do anything from bottom, it's very stupid.
It'a natural that if our Renderer is successfull, we want to sold it. So we
will face the licence problem. It's true that pirate recording is overflow in
China & Russian, we do not want to get law trouble in future.
Most the functions from CGAL we need is the subdivision, intersection
test, ja, that's enough. In RenderMan all of the primitive will be diced into
micropolygon, then shade them on vertex. I have check the source code from
Pixie and Aqsis, it's not very difficult, so I want to know if the CGAL can
do this. We are facing lot's of problem that MAYA can not solved, such as
putting NURBS together etc.
The 'zhoubo' is the pronunciation of my Chinese name "周波" :-)
You are very kind, best regards.
