Dear Daniel,

I waited until April the 2nd before answering...
As mentioned on the CGAL 'work in progress' web page, we are actually working on a 3D periodic triangulation package for CGAL. I hope it will appear in the next public release, though there is still some work left.

I am interested in learning more about the way the problems arise in applications. What do you mean by "kernel for toroidal conditions"? Do you need specific functionality at the kernel level?
Our approach is instead to use the standard CGAL kernel without modification, and we handle periodicity at the triangulation level.

See http://www-sop.inria.fr/geometrica/team/Monique.Teillaud/other-geometries/
for current results. (The running times are better today than what was reported in the preliminary publications, the performance is roughly only 30% lower than in R^3.)

Best regards,
Monique Teillaud

PS: congratulations to Andreas for his 1st April joke ;)
We are not expecting any Nobel price, but still, I think this package will have many applications.

Hello everyone,

As a physicist, I am happy and impressed by this exciting discovery, in which the CGAL project has had such an impact.

As (in particular) a condensed matter simulator, I am very interested in this Periodic Triangulation package. (Simulations are almost always carried out with these conditions.) I recall this question came out some months ago, and that the kernel for toroidal conditions was not yet available.
Best everyone,

Daniel
