This is the normal result when compiling CGAL 3.4 and its sub-libraries (Core, ImageIO, 
...) with VC++ 8 (CGAL.sln) in Debug mode.

Does the Release version compile?

This is the output when *running* 'C:\Program 
Files\CGAL-3.4\examples\Polygon\test1\debug\test1.exe' in Debug mode.
This part does not seem correct.

You should instead:
* Define %CGAL_DIR%=C:\Program Files\CGAL-3.4 (if not already done by CGAL 
installer)
* Run CMake in C:\Program Files\CGAL-3.4\examples\Polygon. This step will create 
C:\Program Files\CGAL-3.4\examples\Polygon\Polygon_example.sln.
* Open Polygon_example.sln with VC++ 8 and compile it. This step will create Example.exe, 
Polygon.exe and polygon_algorithms.exe in D:\Libs\CGAL-3.4\examples\Polygon\debug (same 
thing for release).
* Then, try to run these executables.
