Hi,
I am an undergraduate student of Computer Science and Engineering. I
have strong mathematical background too. And I want to volunteer CGAL in
GSoC 2012. I saw some projects on the ideas page and I was a bit
disappointed due to the fact that I wasn't familiar with any of them.
But when I filtered them by required skill I found one *Extend the
packages Combinatorial maps and Linear cell complex(Required skill: C++,
Generic Programming).* When I read the details of this project I felt
that I can contribute to this project if guided. So can anyone guide me
through so that I can prepare & learn the things that are required for
this project beforehand.
My skill sets are C, C++, Core Java, Strong Mathematical Background.
PS - I am brand new to the software development and I have no
experience in the same. But I'm quick learner and hard worker so I
can learn things quickly and put my heart and soul to this project.

Dear Lavakesh,
We appreciate your enthousiasm and the honest statement concerning
your weaknesses (which are normal as you are an undergraduate),
but if more experienced students are candidates it is obvious that
they have higher chances.
As we wrote in the announcement the procedure is to contact the
mentor of the project, so that he you can discuss privately, if
it makes sense or not for you to become candidate.
Best regards,
Andreas
