Hi, we cannot answer to your question without knowing what you call a
"general
curve".
What is more, even for polynomial curves, we would need more information:
what
is the dimension of the ambient space of your curves? Are they curves in a 2D
plane, curves in the 3D space, or curves in higher dimensions?
