To compile the CGAL libraries I used all the default settings.

To compile the mesh_polyhedral_domain example I ran cmake on the
CMakeLists.txt provided with the example and then ran make on the generated
makefile. Buried deep in the cmakefiles directory, I have found the
following options for mesh_polyhedral_domain: 

CXX_FLAGS =  -frounding-math -O3 -DNDEBUG (followed by several include
directories)

CXX_DEFINES = -DCGAL_MESH_3_NO_DEPRECATED_SURFACE_INDEX
-DCGAL_MESH_3_NO_DEPRECATED_C3T3_ITERATORS

link.txt appears as follows: /usr/bin/c++    -frounding-math -O3 -DNDEBUG  
CMakeFiles/mesh_polyhedral_domain.dir/mesh_polyhedral_domain.o  -o
mesh_polyhedral_domain -rdynamic -L/usr/local/lib /usr/local/lib/libCGAL.so
/usr/local/lib/libmpfr.so /usr/local/lib/libgmp.so
/usr/local/lib/libboost_thread.so /usr/local/lib/libCGAL.so
/usr/local/lib/libmpfr.so /usr/local/lib/libgmp.so
/usr/local/lib/libboost_thread.so -Wl,-rpath,/usr/local/lib

Let me know if there is anything more one must know to make a fair
assessment of what has affected the running time. Thanks again.
