Hi Michael,
The CGAL project is about data structures and algorithms,
which users typically integrate into their application
code with their application area specific file formats.
Hence our support for I/O and file formats is somewhat
minimalist. I could well imagine that we integrate
I/O code provided by users, and a first step could be a
wish list for file formats to generate from a C3T3.
Let me also point out, that you can save and load
meshes generated from inside the Polyhedron demo.
Best,
Andreas

Thanks Andreas for that answer.
In general, is it still recommended to use the MEDIT .mesh format or
does the CGAL community prefer something else? (Though, the 3D Mesh
Generation package seems to know only the MEDIT format...)
Best regards,
Michael

Hi all,
I'm currently learning how to use the 3D Mesh Generation package of
CGAL. The package outputs to the medit file format, for example
in this
example: http://doc.cgal.org/latest/Mesh_3/index.html#title15
<http://doc.cgal.org/latest/Mesh_3/index.html#title15>
I tried to get more information about the format and to get the
medit
viewer, but all the links seem to be dead. (For example,
here:
https://www.rocq.inria.fr/gamma/gamma/Logiciels/index.en.html
<https://www.rocq.inria.fr/gamma/gamma/Logiciels/index.en.html>)
I'm not sure: Is there still a way to use the medit format, or
should I
switch to another format? What's the best practice to output and
visualize meshes from CGAL? It will go into an FEM simulaiton
later on,
but it's not yet clear, which one. So I'd just like to have an
output
that is as versatile and compatible as possible.
Best regards,
Michael
