I personally don't see any application for it. In particular I don't 
know if it would be possible provided the method used to create the
skeleton from the collapsed meshed.

IIRC, this was about removing tiny non signifiant parts creating nodes
of degree more that 2.

We did not think to much about that. I think the goal was for doing
some testing on the result depending on the parameter values.
