Ce n'est pas à moi que la question s'adressait, mais je peux répondre.
Chez Softshell, ceux qui ont fait Chemintosh, puis ChemWindow, ils proposent
deux polices spéciales, en TrueType seulement.
Ça permet de résoudre le problème évoqué, des formules chimiques dans le
texte.
Rien pour le Mac, apparemment.

Chemfont is a Windows font package that simplifies the entry of chemical
equations. The font includes all upper and lower case Greek characters,
superscripts, subscripts, many chemistry-specific symbols like reaction
arrows; and of course, the Roman typeface for normal typing. Chemfont comes
in two styles: serif, which is like Times New Roman, and sans-serif, which
is like Arial.
