With Alex' assistance this is now working and a c93 has duly been
factored.

The requirement is that under Gentoo the Python packages must have the
"sqlite" USE flag set and a note to this effect in the docs would be a
good idea.  If wished, I could start a system-dependency gotcha README
file.
