I finally found the solution :-)

and according to the "other problems" section of this page:

it appears that mpfr and boost versions >= 1.42 are somehow non compatible

I uninstalled boost 1.42.0 and installed boost 1.41.0 instead, and could compile CGAL perfectly well!

Can you please tell us what modification you are making to make it compile? (would be helpful, though temporary!)

Yes, please do share it with the group.  We are also having this problem with version 3.5.1.
We are temporarily modifying a GMP header file so that we can compile, but this is a temporary patch.  We would like to hear of a more permanent solution that does not disable any GMP types.
