Relevant excerpt from that discussion:

Hugo reminds of us of the history of the current logo, which is a
reference to the Barcelos Coq from Portugal which Gérard Huet liked,
whose shape was drawn by Julien Narboux and adapted/colored for the
website by Jean-Marc Notin.

For anyone unfamiliar with what a "Barcelos Coq" is, here are the
relevant English and French Wikipedia articles:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooster_of_Barcelos

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coq_de_Barcelos

The current logo does seem to be quite a faithful silhouette of the
Rooster of Barcelos, as distinct from, say, typical representations of
the Gallic rooster:

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolisme_du_coq

N.B. These notes are just to aid understanding, not to express an
opinion against or in support of the name or the logo.

I do believe that if the name or logo are retained, it would be wise to
add a paragraph explaining them - perhaps also with a recommendation to
non-Francophones to pronounce the name as "coke" - here:
https://coq.inria.fr/about-coq .
