My guess is that you run cmake in a shell or a Windows
command prompt which does not have cl.exe  (that is the compiler)
in the PATH.

Start-> All Programs -> Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 -> Visual Studio 
Tools -> Visual Studio Command Prompt

gives you the right command prompt.



In case you use cygwin add

@echo Setting environment for using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 tools.
@call "c:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Visual Studio 
9.0/VC/vcvarsall.bat" amd64

to cygwin.bat
